For the first time last year, the Woolton Freemasons hosted a Christmas party for pensioners from the local community. It was such a resounding success that they decided to do it all again this year.
60 guests from Woolton Community Life, St Mary’s Church, St Columba’s Church, St Hilda’s Church and Camphill local residents enjoyed another Christmas party at Woolton Golf Club.
Woolton Group Chairman Andrew Whittle welcomed everyone and said that there would be sandwiches and cakes, a free raffle and possibly a surprise visit from Santa.
Of course, these functions do not just happen, they take planning and sponsorship, which came from Kevin Birchall and Mike Cunliffe, with lots of help from chef Rendi Aitkin and his staff.
Members of the Woolton Freemasons dressed in festive clothing greeted the guests and served on tables. Entertainment was provided by ‘Simply Frank’, the name says it all, a real Sinatra crooner.
After people had eaten, Alan Birchall, a former Black and White Minstrel, took to the microphone and accompanied by Derek Harrison sung favourite carols and songs with audience participation. Santa Claus, and his ‘helpers’ made an unexpected visit and provided everyone with a present.
At the end of the afternoon everyone said that they had had a thoroughly enjoyable visit and were looking forward to the next one!
